About |
In November of 2008, Aaron Dolores and Brady Thomas, the founders of My Own Two Hands, invited their network of friends and family in the San Francisco Bay Area to become part of an informal volunteer group committed to getting out once a month to do something positive in the community. The idea behind this group came out of a realization that their wonderful group of friends would jump at the opportunity to volunteer with worthwhile organizations if they could just uncover the opportunities. Since then, the founders of My Own Two Hands have worked hard to find existing, non-political and non-religious, volunteer-reliant organizations that could use help.
From the outset, the other major goal of this group has been to get out and really just have fun and get to know each other better. We believe very strongly that the best way to meet good people is through the good people you already know. From the outset, we have encouraged all of our friends and family to pass along the event information to other like-minded friends and take this as an opportunity to introduce them to the rest of us. What started as a group of six (6) people at our first event has grown into a group that turns out anywhere from 30 to 50 volunteers in a number of cities across the country.
With inspired commitment and dedication from chapter founders in New York and Chicago, we also have groups in those two cities that are hosting similar monthly volunteer events. We are looking to grow into other cities, as well, using the same model and just need dedicated, motivated people to take the lead!
